RobotRepublic — Maybe you remember Sony Aibo the robot dog. The Japanese electronics giant unleashed that little robotic dog way back in 1999, only to send it “back to farm,” as it said, in 2006.

Well, now Sony Aibo is back.  It still barks, sits and wags its little tail. But now it’s able to react to voice and touch, too. That means you can control it with voice commands and watch it react when you pet it. And those bright little eyes? They’re OLEDs.

Aibo will ship in Japan next year for about $198,000 yen — that’s about $1700 US, according to Sony execs. There’s still no word on when or if Aibo will enter the US and European markets.
