Noel Sharkey

Lots of humans know Noel Sharkey as the wry judge on BBC’s award-winning series, Robot Wars. An early pioneer in the fields of artificial intelligence and neural networking, he is today a renowned robotics ethicist

Noel is an emeritus professor of robotics and AI at the University of Sheffield and acclaimed for his groundbreaking early work in neural computing and robotics. He is the chairman of the NGO’s International Committee for Robot Arms Control, and the cofounder, with Aimee Wynsberghe, of the Foundation for Responsible Robotics.

The FRR is a non-profit dedicated to studying how robotics age will impact humanity so that we can plan our coexistence proactively. And it’s the sole patron and sponsor of our independent AI and robotics news site, RobotRepublic.
